It’s always about money… Sports stadiums are intended to make money. Schools don’t. Someone needs to make “them” understand that you can’t put a price on education. Without it, our country is doomed. Maybe someday, everyone will get it. Academics should come before sports! OUCH! I’m sure that particular truth hurts those who it applies to! “see thru hypocrisy’…no, they do not. Kids are playing machines. lol What’s needed are top notch teachers, well-paid, motivators that’ll instill in them a curiosity to learn life and its secrets yet to be discovered. Anybody can dribble a basket ball or hang ten, etc. We spend more money per student than any other. Or try. The problem isn’t MONEY is is the deterioration of the family Have you been to Hartford CT.? They want to build a 60 million dollar stadium for a minor league team in a dangerous area with no parking. The area residents were on TV yesterday protesting the stadium. My husband and teenage grandson go to Rock Cats games in New Britain CT. (much safer area with parking right there) but when the team moves to Hartford they will no longer go. Too dangerous to be there, especially at night. I drove through the area yesterday on my way to the train station and noticed they had closed another library in Hartford. No money to keep a library open but 60 million dollars for a stadium for a minor league team that people won’t come to see. Take that 60 million dollars and put a computer in every student’s home. Hartford is a poor city. A computer would do more for the mind of a child than baseball. that’s the honest truth. Just as frustrating is that some of the schools are more willing to put money into their sports programs than their libraries. Sports are seen as a way to move up in life for some, and more emphasis is put on that than academic abilities, reading, and being a lifelong learner. Sports figures are “heroes” and idolized by society, it’s not surprising the stadiums become our “palaces” . Not saying I don’t think they have their place, but it is skewed in the weight it’s given.
